Bouvet Island (Bouvetรธya) is a remote volcanic island in the South Atlantic, administered by Norway as a dependent territory. It is one of the most remote places on Earth, located approximately 1,700 km north of Antarctica. The island is entirely covered in glaciers and has no permanent population and no permanent structures.
Bouvet Island is a Norwegian nature reserve. Occasional scientific expeditions visit the island, but all personnel are Norwegian or from other countries, traveling on their respective national passports.
