Who Is Eligible for Tanzania e-Visa?

Passport Requirements

Your passport must meet these requirements at the time of application and at the time of travel:

Example: If you plan to leave Tanzania on November 30, 2026, your passport must be valid until at least May 30, 2026.

If your passport expires in less than 6 months, renew it before applying for the e-Visa. A Tanzania e-Visa cannot be transferred to a new passport.

Required Documents for Tanzania e-Visa Application

All Applicants Must Provide:

1. Passport data page scan

• Clear scan or high-resolution photo of the biographical data page
• Must show: your photo, full name, nationality, passport number, issue date, expiry date
• Format: PDF or JPEG, max 2MB
• Color scan required — black and white not accepted
• All text must be fully legible — no shadows, no cropping of edges

2. Passport-style photograph

• Must be a separate file from the passport scan

3. Return or onward travel ticket

• Booking confirmation showing your departure from Tanzania (or travel to a third country)
• Must show your name and travel dates
• Round-trip flight reservation is the most common document

4. Accommodation proof (one of the following):

• Hotel booking confirmation with your name, stay dates, hotel name and address
• Safari operator confirmation letter/itinerary
• Letter of invitation from a host in Tanzania — must include: host's full name, address, phone number, ID or passport copy, and statement of relationship to you

5. Completed application form

• Filled out accurately on the official portal (eservices.immigration.go.tz)
• All information matching your passport exactly

6. Valid payment method

• Visa or Mastercard (credit or debit)
• Sufficient funds for the applicable fee

Additional Requirements for Business e-Visa

Business visa applicants must additionally provide:

• Invitation letter from a registered Tanzanian company — on company letterhead, signed by an authorized signatory, specifying the nature of business activities and duration
• Certificate of Incorporation or registration certificate of the Tanzanian host company
• Host's ID or passport copy — the person signing the invitation letter
• Letter from your employer confirming the purpose of your business travel to Tanzania

Additional Requirements for Transit e-Visa

Transit applicants must additionally provide:

• Visa for destination country — proof that you hold a valid visa for the country you are transiting to (if required)
• Onward ticket — flight or transport confirmation showing your departure from Tanzania to your final destination within 7 days

Financial Requirements

Tanzania does not publish an official minimum bank balance requirement, but immigration officers may ask you to demonstrate sufficient funds for your stay. As a practical guideline:

• Minimum recommended: $50 USD per day of your planned stay
• Practical recommendation: Show a bank statement or credit card with equivalent funds
• Safari travelers: Your pre-paid safari itinerary is usually sufficient evidence

You are not required to show a bank statement as part of the e-Visa application, but be prepared to show evidence of financial means at the immigration counter on arrival.

Health Requirements

As of 2026, Tanzania requires:

• Yellow fever vaccination certificate if you are arriving from a yellow fever endemic country (sub-Saharan Africa, Central and South America). Carry your International Certificate of Vaccination (yellow booklet).
• Tanzania recommends (but does not mandate) malaria prophylaxis for all visitors
